A friend is looking to compile a list of fantasy gaming tropes, specifically table-top role-playing:

F: I'm working on a screenplay focused around a gaming group, and want to make sure I don't miss something useful.

X: So you're looking for common things that tend to happen during tabletop RPG sessions.

F: Well, that, yes. But also the typical devices that are commonly used in fantasy role playing adventures.

F: One example might be the tried and true "the hero needs to acquire a special magic weapon to be able to slay the big bad guy"

F: Or, on a smaller scale, "the group has to listen for rumors in an inn to be determine where the bandits are hiding"

Yall have any input?

Thanks!

I have a quick favour to ask, of someone who speaks German.

I just need to calculate the cost of a letter-sized business-related envelope sent:

* From Germany to the USA.
* From Germany to Romania.

I just can't read German that well, a lot of the items are AJAX or images and so Google Translate won't get them, and I'd like this rather quickly.

If I wanted something like FoxClocks ("FoxClocks lets you keep an eye on the time around the world - or just your local time - by putting small clocks in your statusbar.") for different browsers, or just one small app for Windows, what would I want?

Dear the world:

I'd like a good autocomplete search thing for Mediawiki.  Does this exist?

So busy my eyes are bleeding,

If you know of a good for-dummies website about how to use Subversion, and in fact how to grok the entire concept of version control, would you be so good as to share it?

Signal boost:

[livejournal.com profile] trista would like to get suggestions for princess movies, appropriate for a 3-year-old, that do not perpetuate the "only boys can save girls" thing.  Two examples: Enchanted and Shrek.

(My anti-example: Princess Bride.  As much as I adore the movie, Buttercup did approximately fuck-all, which has always bugged me.)

Thanks!

I am making a request.  Please post one of two things:

1) Pictures of your kitty or kitties.

2) Links to personal kitty donation things.

My last post was because there is-or-was a dead cat in the road, and yayfor sobbing at my desk for a half hour.  I am a soft touch for kitties, especially first thing in the morning on a Monday before I've caffeinated.

Thankee.

Could it be a port issue?  Maybe it's stopped liking port 25 for some reason?  But that doesn't make sense, why that and not port 143?  (Out- and inbound IMAP stuff, for the record.)

If there is a good Ubuntu newb tutorial on ports, management of, that would be fantastic.  I think that's what I'd want...

I still may reinstall the Tbird accounts, just to be thorough.

I may as well shop for a network card, while I'm thinking of it.  I have a 32-bit system running Ubuntu 8.04.  The network is? uses? WPA-PSK.  What would be a better network card for me than DWL-520 rev E, which apparently is not a card that Linux loves?
