Dogs and Smurfs; Why women writers and stories about women are taken less seriously, by Max Barry

The entire post is the awesome.  I've even caught myself referring to unknown-sex animals as "he"/"him".  It's incredibly frustrating.

Someone posted a series of comparison photos of herself at different periods of her exercising, to show the difference in how the weight looks on her.

How is this different from every other day?

Frequently, though she looks thinner, there is little to no difference in weight.  She even compares herself with some other folk (all in one photo), for a "what's the weight distribution here" pop quiz.

It's useful as a way to concretise existing knowledge.

[personal profile] rydra_wong has an awesomemazing post up here, about exercise and depression, only not the usual "if you would just exercise, you wouldn't be depressed!" nonsense.  It, plus the comments, is an amazing read.

If you don't like RSS feeds, and/or you are used to emails and mailing lists and things, you might find this useful:

I checked it out with the XKCD.com RSS feed, and I got an email at around when the link popped up in Google Reader for me, so, yay.

I'll be playing a doctor at a fake trial for one of the folk I game with.

F: I mean, listen to this gobbletygook: "Examination of right foot shows significant erythematic area with ecchymosis most pronounced on the dorsal aspect in the lateral forefoot, involving the third through fifth toes, the fourth and fifth metatarsals, extending back laterally to the astragalus."
X: ...most of that makes perfect sense, actually.
F: Oh, good!

Most.  Not all.  Still.

So, I need to get into my head the follow-up report details, and buy a sports jacket.  Which I'd been wanting to do anyhow, that latter.  The former:

In other news: Google Maps Distance Calculator:

"You can use the Google Maps Distance Calculator to find out the distance between two or more points anywhere on the earth. In other words, the distance between A and B."
